Kia e-Niro has a range of up to 301 miles
‘Up to’ are the important words here, because the distance that Kia’s new pure-electric e-Niro can travel on a single charge depends on the version chosen.
Customers will be able to opt for either a 39.2 kWh or a 64.0 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack. As would be expected, the latter delivers much better figures according to the World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure.
In addition, the 64.0 kWh model offers extra performance, as it’s equipped with a more powerful electric motor. Recharging to 80% capacity is claimed to take 54 minutes if a 100 kW rapid charger is used.
Kia intends to sell the e-Niro alongside the existing hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. Deliveries across Europe are due to begin before the end of this year, after a début at the Paris Motor Show in October.
There’s a strong possibility that the e-Niro’s capabilities could be good enough to persuade drivers to switch from combustion-engine vehicles. However, take-up is likely to depend on the purchase prices being sufficiently attractive too, but they’ve yet to be confirmed.
