Off-grid campers would like the Nissan x Opus

Nissan is currently busy finding applications for the Roam, a new 1 kW portable power unit that recycles batteries from the Leaf electric car. Following last month’s NV300 workshop van project, a collaboration with Suffolk-based Opus Camper has now resulted in a trailer tent concept.

The aptly-named Nissan x Opus is based on the existing Air Opus. Thanks to an on-board compressor and air-filled beams, the structure unfolds in just ninety seconds. The interior accommodates two fixed double beds, a seating area (which converts into two additional berths) and a kitchenette. Four more people could sleep in an bespoke awning if required.

An inconspicuous front-mounted locker is used to store the Roam. Once fully charged via a regular domestic socket (in around one hour), its 700 Wh output supplies the trailer’s 230 V circuit and 12 V leisure battery. With an optional 400 W solar panel providing top-ups, off-grid camping for up to seven days is possible.

Nissan Energy will begin selling the Roam in Europe later this year, but pricing hasn’t been revealed yet.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
