Perodua Myvi editions

There are probably lots of people who wouldn’t have a clue what a Perodua is. So it’s unsurprising that the Malaysian manufacturer’s sole UK model, the Myvi, is a rare thing despite being one of the cheapest cars on the market. Perhaps to give it a little more profile, Perodua has announced two limited editions, the Myvi Jet and Myvi Sport Silver. Changes from the standard specification versions are mostly cosmetic. The Jet gets 14” alloy wheels, remote central locking, side mouldings and chrome door handles. As its name suggests, it’s only available in black and costs £7,499 with manual transmission. On the other hand, the Sport Silver is based on the existing Sport model and, yes, it’s painted silver. Priced at £7,999, it comes with 15” 10-spoke alloys, body kit, chrome door handles, side mouldings and carbon fibre trim for the interior. VW unveils electric Golf

Volkswagen has revealed the electric Golf blue-e-motion. Instead of an engine under the bonnet, there’s an electric motor that produces maximum power of 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS) and has a continuous output of 67 bhp (50 kW / 69 PS). Electricity for the motor is stored in a lithium-ion battery pack, which has an energy capacity of 26.5 kilowatt-hours. Volkswagen claim that that’s enough to give the blue-e-motion a range of around 90 miles (150 km). Performance is brisk, too. With 270 Nm of torque, 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration takes a respectable 11.8 seconds, while top speed is 83 mph (135 km/h). That’s despite having to lug around the batteries, which weigh a bulky 315 kg. They’re stuffed under the rear seats, in the transmission tunnel and into the boot floor, which reduces luggage capacity from 350 litres to 275 litres. 2015 Lotus Elise

By the time the 2015 Elise arrives in the showrooms the current car will be nineteen years old, and so arguably overdue for replacement. The next generation model revealed at the Paris Motor Show gains a bit of weight, but it also gets extra power to compensate. That comes courtesy of a four-cylinder 2.0 litre engine, which will be available with an optional start-stop system to improve fuel economy and cut down on emissions. The styling is said to be ‘young, strong, confident [and] verging on ruthless’, but Lotus is also emphasising that the 2015 Elise will be more practical and much easier to get in and out of. Of course 2015 is a long way off, and so some of the design details included on the Paris concept are bound to change. An estimated price of £35,000 puts it on a par with the top end of today’s Elise range. However, that’s still quite a jump from today’s entry-level 1.6, which in basic form costs nearer to £27,000. With the opening round of the 2012 DTM season due to take place at the Hockenheimring on the 29th of April, Audi Sport has revealed the teams and drivers that’ll be campaigning its all-new A5 DTM challenger. American spec Fiat 500

Fiat has released the first details and images of the North American specification 500. The tiny city car will be available in Pop, Lounge and Sport trim levels, and is distinguished from the European version by its more aggressive front and rear bumpers, bigger grille and flared sills. Another unique feature is the engine. Fiat has decided to use the 1.4 MultiAir unit currently found in models such as the Fiat Punto Evo and Alfa Romeo MiTo. Perhaps it felt that using the forthcoming two-cylinder TwinAir in the American 500 would have been too much for markets there to take? There’s no word yet on what power output the MultiAir will have, although in its current applications it comes with either 103 bhp (77 kW / 105 PS), 133 bhp (99 kW / 135 PS) or 167 bhp (125 kW / 170 PS). Similarly, prices have yet to be confirmed, but hopefully both details will have been sorted out by the time the order book for the 500 hatch opens later this year.
