2013 Maserati Quattroporte

Maserati has unveiled its all-new 2013 Quattroporte four-door saloon. While the styling might be striking, the elongated form, bulging rear flanks and fussy details lack some of the finesse of the current model. Perhaps it’s a design that works better in the metal?

Regardless of the looks, the Quattroporte is to play a key role in Maserati’s future plans. Alongside the recently-announced Levante SUV - which, in a break in tradition, will be built in Detroit - and a yet to be revealed smaller saloon, it will be expected to help realise the Italian marque’s aspiration to sell 50,000 units per annum by 2015.

Although few technical details have been confirmed, the engines for the Quattroporte will be manufactured by Ferrari in Maranello. While it’s expected that the motors will retain their V8 configuration, Maserati is saying that fuel efficiency will be improved without any sacrifice in performance.

The 2013 Quattroporte is going to make its public debut at this January’s Detroit motor show, a move that clearly signifies the continued importance of the North American markets to Maserati.
