In a 2012 World Touring Car Championship that was dominated by Chevrolet, the Team Aon Ford Focus race cars didn’t perform brilliantly in their debut season. Indeed, drivers James Nash and Tom Chilton only managed to finish the year in 20th and 22nd places respectively.

But it was always going to be a steep learning curve and the lack of results hasn’t prevented Arena International Motorsport, which runs Team Aon, from unveiling a road-going Ford Focus WTCC Limited Edition.

Based on the Zetec S model, it comes finished in Frost White and features body graphics as well as Team Dynamics 18” alloy wheels shod with Yokohama Advan Sport low profile tyres. On the inside, there’s a short-shift gear change and carbon fibre trim pieces on the control panel, centre console and door sill kick plates.

It’s not merely a cosmetic conversion though, as the 1.6 litre turbo EcoBoost engine has also been fettled courtesy of a Mountune MP200 upgrade package and a Powerflow exhaust. The result is an increase in power to 200 bhp (149 kW / 202 PS), while peak torque rises to 320 Nm (236 lb/ft).

Those outputs might still be a way off the 246 bhp (183 kW / 250 PS) and 360 Nm (265 lb/ft) of the 2.0 litre Focus ST, but they are nevertheless impressive figures for such a relatively small motor. An added benefit is that the original Ford vehicle warranty is unaffected.

The Focus WTCC Limited Edition will be offered for sale worldwide, although individual market allocations have yet to be decided.
