2013 Shelby Focus ST

Shelby American is best known for remodelling the Ford Mustang, but now the Las Vegas-based operation has turned its attention to the Focus ST.

The hatchback’s chassis is thoroughly altered with better brakes, Ford Racing suspension components and upgraded wheels and tyres.

However, despite the fitment of a replacement Shelby / Borla exhaust, the output from the 2.0 litre four-cylinder, turbocharged EcoBoost engine is left unchanged at 252 bhp (187 kW / 255 PS). Shelby is currently working on an optional tune-up for the motor, although a release date is yet to be confirmed. Perhaps the engineers are still trying to determine how much horsepower the front-wheel drive Focus can cope with?

Cosmetically, the interior features new upholstery, a short-throw gear stick and a numbered dash plaque. The exterior meanwhile gets a rear spoiler, bonnet vents, ‘Shelby’ lettering for the rear and a choice of three graphics sets. A carbon fibre bonnet is in the pipeline.

Production of the Shelby Focus ST is going to be limited to 500 units per year and orders are being accepted now. Post-title package prices start at a whopping $14,995, to which must be added the $24,495 cost of a new Focus ST. Oh, and Shelby will be keeping any parts it removes from the donor car.
