Seat Leon ST revealed

Seat seems to be using decent design as a means to give its brand a better sense of identity. The new estate version of the Leon, which carries the name Sport Tourer, is further evidence of that strategy.

Like the existing five-door and three-door SC models, the ST is an eye-catching car. It should be fairly practical too, as the cargo volume is 587 litres with the rear seats up, or 1,470 litres with them folded flat. The front passenger seat backrest can also be flipped forward to accommodate very long loads.

Powering the ST is the same range of engines already offered in the other Leon models. That means a choice of petrol or diesel, with capacities ranging from 1.2 to 2.0 litres. All come with stop-start and brake energy recovery systems as standard for improved efficiency.

Coinciding with the arrival of the ST is the introduction of some extra options across the Leon range. These include adaptive cruise control, as well as adaptive damper chassis control and progressive steering for the high performance FR variants.

The Leon ST is due to make its public debut at this September’s IAA show in Frankfurt.
