Silverado concepts debut in Texas

The State Fair of Texas was the venue chosen by Chevrolet to unveil a pair of very different concepts based on its full-size Silverado pick-up.

Described as ‘a survival kit on four wheels’, the first is called the Blacks Ops. It takes a Silverado Crew Cab 4x4 and adds a host of extra equipment that should be fairly useful in the wilderness.

Modifications to the truck include raised suspension, lower-body armour and a winch on the front bumper. To help ensure the Silverado can cope with rough terrain, 18” wheels shod with off-road tyres sit beneath extended wheel arches.

In the cargo box sits a Truck Vault storage unit that contains essentials such as a couple of gas masks, a shovel, some rope and a solar power pack. A food crate, water can, generator and spare fuel can are all mounted on top.

The second vehicle is intended for another type of mission altogether. Designed to demonstrate how the Silverado could be used by first responders, the Volunteer Firefighter concept has been developed from a Double Cab model fitted with Z71 off-road suspension.

As well as a roof-mounted light bar, LED perimeter lighting and a siren, its specification features a TracRac, tool box, axe, Halligan tool (a device used to gain entry to vehicles or buildings) and some fire extinguishers.

Completing the look are a billet aluminium front brush guard, 22” six-spoke wheels, a special paintjob and various chrome trim pieces inside and out.
