CBR300R to take on the Ninja 300

Honda has unveiled its CBR300R at the China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition, which is currently being held in Chongqing.

Billed as ‘a global motorcycle model’ that’ll be built in Thailand, the new arrival looks set to be a larger-capacity replacement for the CBR250R sports bike.

For now, no technical details have been released, but the CBR300R isn’t unexpected. That’s because a year ago, Kawasaki surprised many by launching its Ninja 300 in certain markets as a substitute for the Ninja 250R.

With a 38 bhp (29 kW / 39 PS) parallel-twin 296 cc engine, the Ninja 300 comfortably out-classes the CBR250R, which makes do with 26 bhp (19 kW / 26 PS) from its 249 cc single-cylinder motor. So, given such a power gap, it was only going to be a matter of time before Honda reacted.
