Suzuki reveals five concepts

The 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, which opens to the public on the 23rd of November, is going to feature five concepts from Suzuki.

First up is the Crosshiker. Using the same platform as the G70 small car concept that was originally unveiled last year, it mixes mini-SUV styling, a 1.0 litre three-cylinder engine and a kerb weight of only 810 kg (1,785 lbs).

With its crossover-inspired design touches, the Hustler is a next-generation kei car. Suzuki reckons it would appeal to those with an ‘active lifestyle’.

Another world premiere at Tokyo will be the Hustler Coupe. As the name implies, it takes the regular Hustler and adds a sloping roofline in an attempt to create a new sub-niche. Unfortunately, the result just looks rather odd.

The fourth concept, called the X-Lander, is based on the existing Jimny. Power comes from a 1.3 litre petrol engine / electric motor hybrid system, which sends its output to all four wheels via a specially developed automatically-controlled manual gearbox. The X-Lander’s bodywork is certainly distinctive, if a bit impractical.

Finally, the iV-4 compact SUV will also be on display. Already seen in Europe, this concept previews a production model that’s due to be launched in 2015.
