McLaren 570S Coupé unveiled

McLaren says the new 570S Coupé is intended to deliver every-day usability and practicality. So, in other words, it’s destined to become a direct rival to Porsche’s 911.

The 570S is the first member of an ‘entry level’ Sports Series family. This joins the existing Super Series and Ultimate Series as a third product line for McLaren’s rapidly expanding road car range.

Built around a lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis structure clad in ‘superformed’ aluminium body panels, the two-seat, mid-engine 570S features carbon ceramic brakes, adaptive damping and a Brake Steer system.

However, unlike the 650S and 675LT Super Series models, traditional front and rear anti-roll bars are fitted. Recognising the car’s multi-purpose role, the suspension set-up offers a choice of Normal, Sport and Track modes.

Confirmed price tags of £143,250 and $184,900 for the UK and USA respectively mean the 570S is going to cost roughly the same as a 911 Turbo S. Unsurprisingly, the McLaren’s key stats are also a close match:

When sales begin later this year, the 570S Coupé is going to be accompanied by the slightly less powerful 540C Coupé. Technical details for the latter have yet to be revealed, but McLaren has already stated that 540C prices will start from £126,000.
