Mercedes-AMG unveils a new DTM Safety Car

This weekend’s DTM round at EuroSpeedway Lausitz sees the debut of a new Mercedes-AMG GT S Safety Car.

As well as some decals, the most obvious differences compared to the showroom version are an illuminated rear number plate and an aerodynamically-optimised roof-mounted LED lightbar.

The interior meanwhile gains race seats, six-point harnesses and the necessary radio equipment.

Mechanically, things remain standard. Power therefore comes from a 503 bhp (375 kW / 510 PS) 4.0 litre biturbo V8 engine which is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Numerous items from the options list have been added to the car’s specification, though. These include the AMG Dynamic Plus package, a set of lightweight forged alloy wheels, the Aerodynamics package, ceramic brake discs and a Performance exhaust system.

Series participants Audi, BMW and Mercedes rotate the deployment of their course cars throughout the season. Consequently the GT S Safety Car is also due to appear at Zandvoort in July and Hockenheim in October.
