Land Rover builds ‘Defender 2,000,000’

Production of the original Land Rover Series I began in 1947, ahead of its launch the following year. Since then, two million examples of the Series and Defender models have left the Solihull factory.

To celebrate that milestone, a one-off ‘Defender 2,000,000’ has been created with the help of some enthusiasts, brand ambassadors and people with connections to the vehicle’s long history.

This unique Defender 90 is painted in Indus Silver with a contrasting Santorini Black finish for the roof, wheels, grille and door mirror caps.

A map of Red Wharf Bay on Anglesey (where brothers Maurice and Spencer Wilks first devised the Land Rover concept) appears on the leather-covered seats, plus it’s engraved into one of the front wings. There’s also a commemorative aluminium plaque on the driver’s seat plinth, along with several ‘2,000,000’ badges and logos.

After making various public appearances during 2015, ‘Defender 2,000,000’ is going to be auctioned by Bonhams in December. All proceeds will be split between the Red Cross and the Born Free Foundation.
