2019 Corsa GSi powertrain confirmed
When Vauxhall and Opel first announced the new Corsa GSi, no mention was made of the car’s engine. Now that incongruous omission has been addressed.
It features a relatively insurance-friendly 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol unit which produces 147 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) with 220 Nm (162 lb/ft) of torque. The sole available transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox.
Consequently, performance is brisk rather than ultra-rapid. The zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 8.9 seconds, for example, while the more relevant 50 to 75 mph (80 to 120 km/h) increment can be completed in 9.9 seconds when using fifth gear. Top speed is 128 mph (207 km/h).
A combined cycle fuel efficiency figure of 45.5 mpg (6.2 l/100km) is acceptable if not outstanding. CO2 emissions of 143 g/km are rather disappointing, though.
Corsa GSi deliveries are expected to start in the summer, but pricing has yet to be disclosed.
