Suburban RST Performance Package launched

‘Sporty’ and ‘full-size SUV’ are two terms that shouldn’t really go together. Chevrolet doesn’t agree though, hence the introduction of a Performance Package for the Suburban RST.

It boasts 420 bhp (313 kW / 425 PS) plus 623 Nm (460 lb/ft) of peak torque, courtesy of a 6.2 litre petrol V8 with direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing. The engine’s output is delivered via a new Hydra-Matic 10L80 ten-speed automatic transmission.

However, acceleration, top speed and fuel consumption figures have yet to be released, so the effects of the powertrain upgrades remain a mystery for now.

Magnetic Ride Control active damping and a set of 22” wheels are two other key components of the Performance Package. To help create a suitably purposeful look, there’s an almost complete absence of exterior chrome and the grille has a gloss black finish.

Available options include a high-flow Borla side-exit exhaust and a Brembo brake kit. The latter features six-piston aluminium calipers for the front wheels and larger Duralife discs.

Sales of the 2019 Suburban RST Performance Package are due to begin across North America this summer. Chevrolet will announce pricing at a later date.
