UK prices for the 2019 Toyota Camry

Finding customers for the new Camry four-door saloon is likely to be a tough task for Toyota. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with the car, but right now SUVs and crossovers (preferably from a prestige brand) are what an ever-increasing number of buyers want.

Nevertheless, the Camry has two things in its favour.

The first is a self-charging (i.e. non-plug-in) hybrid powertrain. Combining a 2.5 litre, four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, total output is rated at 215 bhp (160 kW / 217 PS). Just as importantly, up to 53.3 mpg (5.3 l/100km) on the WLTP combined cycle indicates diesel-rivalling efficiency.

The second is a generous specification. Standard equipment on the £29,995 Design variant includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, a reversing camera and a touchscreen-controlled infotainment system with satellite navigation.

Also fitted is the Toyota Safety Sense collection of driver aids. It comprises adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, road sign recognition, automatic high beam activation, pre-collision preparation and pedestrian detection.

Alternatively, the £31,295 Excel gains LED dual-beam projector headlights, wireless device charging and a wheel upgrade from 17” to 18”. Furthermore, lane change assistance, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and an intelligent clearance sonar are among this grade’s additional technologies.

In the UK, Camry orders can be placed from next month. Deliveries are due to begin in July.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.

2012 Civic NGTC livery

Honda Racing’s all-new Civic NGTC race cars were first seen at a Brands Hatch test session last month. Then they were painted plain white, but now the colour scheme that will be worn in this year’s British Touring Car Championship has been revealed. As expected, the design is predominantly white with red and black stripes. A deal with Yuasa has also been confirmed, which will see the battery manufacturer becoming the renamed Honda Yuasa Racing Team’s title sponsor for the next three years.
