Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp Concept unveiled

Volkswagen Design Center California has produced a one-off adventure vehicle for this month’s New York International Auto Show. Called the Basecamp Concept, it’s based on the Atlas SEL Premium seven-seat SUV.

Better off-road capability was a primary objective. Therefore, to complement the standard 4Motion all-wheel drive system, the modifications include a set of 17” Fifteen52 Traverse MX Concept wheels, all-terrain tyres and a lift kit with coilover springs that raises the ride height by about 4 cm (1.5”).

An Air Design body kit, a roof rack and some LED light bars are also fitted. Platinum Gray and Black Uni paintwork, orange accents and special badges complete the look.

Volkswagen has paired the Basecamp Concept with a Hive EX camping trailer. A queen-size bed can be found inside its aluminium body, while the exterior features a canopy and a fully-equipped pull-out kitchenette. Off-grid use would certainly be possible, thanks to an on-board water tank, a hot shower, a portable toilet and an optional 12 volt leisure battery.
