Two new Volkswagen police vans unveiled
Following the recent introduction of the Crafter Police Support Unit, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has added a couple more officially-approved conversions to its ‘blue light’ fleet.
The first is a Caddy Police Dog Van. Based on the long-wheelbase Maxi Highline variant, power is provided by a 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) 2.0 litre diesel engine.
Modifications – carried out by PressFab Evo in Bedfordshire – include a removable kennel which complies with the latest animal welfare standards. A temperature monitoring and adjustment system is also fitted.
The second is a Transporter Police Cell Van. Using a short-wheelbase Trendline as the starting point, Safeguard SVP of Essex has put a two-prisoner cell in the rear.
Sensibly, a double-latch mechanism prevents the back doors being opened from the inside, plus an additional rear-facing seat allows an officer to keep an eye on any miscreant passengers. Quick response times shouldn’t be an issue, because this special model benefits from a 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) 2.0 litre diesel unit too.
