Opel Corsa-e Rally unveiled

Fifteen examples of the Corsa-e Rally are due to compete in next year’s inaugural ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup. This new car – which will appear in public for the first time at the 2019 IAA Frankfurt International Motor Show – is aimed at customer teams.

Like the road-going Corsa-e, its pure-electric powertrain combines a 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS) synchronous motor with a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. That output is complemented by 260 Nm (191 lb/ft) of instantly-available torque.

There are numerous modifications, though. As well as some mandatory items of safety equipment, the enhanced specification includes extra under-body protection, a Torsen differential, tougher suspension and stronger brakes. In addition, recalibrated energy recuperation settings permit more adjustment, while the electronic stability, traction control and anti-lock systems have all been deactivated.

Opel Motorsport has yet to announce an exact price, but the Corsa-e Rally should cost less than €50,000 (approximately £45,300 at current exchange rates).
