Seat introduces a sporty Tarraco plug-in hybrid

Seat is going to unveil the Tarraco FR PHEV at next month’s IAA Frankfurt International Motor Show. As that name suggests, this new addition to the range combines the FR trim grade with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

It features a 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) 1.4 litre petrol engine, a 114 bhp (85 kW / 116 PS) electric motor and a relatively small 13 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Total output is rated at 241 bhp (180 kW / 245 PS) with 400 Nm (295 lb/ft) of peak torque.

For a mid-size SUV, performance is pretty good. According to provisional figures, the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 7.4 seconds, while the top speed is 134 mph (217 km/h).

Efficiency data and recharging times have yet to be released. However, Seat is anticipating a probably-adequate pure-electric driving range of more than 30 miles (50 kilometres) and overall WLTP CO2 emissions of less than 50 g/km.

Externally, the FR variant is recognisable by a set of 18” alloy wheels that sit beneath subtly enlarged arches. Full colour coding, a revised grille and a rear spoiler complete the look.

Inside, an enhanced specification includes power-adjustable front sports seats, faux neoprene and leather upholstery, a flat-bottom steering wheel and aluminium pedals. Furthermore, the infotainment system gains an updated navigation function and a bigger 9.2” screen.

Like every other Tarraco, the FR PHEV will be manufactured at Volkswagen’s facility in Wolfsburg, Germany. Deliveries are due to begin during 2020.
