Somebody has paid £77k for a Transit camper
Prices for long-wheelbase Transit Custom camper vans from Wellhouse Leisure (a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier) start at £49,500. However, as one customer in Yorkshire has discovered, that figure can become much higher when ordering a truly unique specification.
With its side kitchen, elevating roof, swivelling cab seats and a sliding rear bench that morphs into a double bed, there’s nothing different about the layout. A ‘starlit’ Alcantara roof panel (usually a £2,000 option), an Alacantara dashboard covering, white leather upholstery and blue seatbelts combine to form a striking bespoke interior, though.
The exterior is equally eye catching. MS-RT (another Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier) was asked to fit a colour-coded full body kit, some fairly garish graphics and a set of 18” alloy wheels with an anthracite finish.
MS-RT also supplied an upgraded twin exhaust system for the 2.0 litre EcoBlue diesel engine, which delivers 167 bhp (125 kW / 170 PS) via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Such an individual conversion is likely to divide opinion, as will the final invoice total of £77,000 (equivalent to around US$93,700 or €83,900 at current exchange rates). Nevertheless, the amount paid clearly represents good value to the client and, ultimately, his approval is the only thing that really matters.
