UK prices for the new Uniti One electric car

Uniti, the Swedish start-up that was established in 2015, has confirmed prices for its pure-electric city car ahead of deliveries beginning next year.

The three-seat One was designed in Sweden, but engineering and production are taking place in Norfolk, England. Thanks to compact dimensions – overall length and width are 3,222 mm (126.8”) and 1,709 mm (67.2”) respectively – negotiating urban streets and then finding a parking space should be fairly easy.

Innovative features include a central driving position and a standard electro-chromic panoramic roof which automatically darkens to prevent the cabin overheating. Instead of a conventional dashboard, the One uses Android Automotive OS to run three configurable screens. As well as controlling all of the usual vehicle functions, this system can host Play Store apps without the need for a companion smartphone.

Customers are being offered a choice of two capacities for the under-floor battery pack. The regular 12 kWh item provides an estimated WLTP range of 93 miles (150 kilometres). Alternatively, the larger 24 kWh size doubles that figure to 186 miles (300 kilometres).

Recharging times depend on the method deployed. Adding 62 miles (100 kilometres) of range takes 2 hours 30 minutes with a domestic AC supply, or 1 hour 8 minutes if a fast charger is specified. Much quicker is a public 50 kW DC facility, which achieves the same outcome in just 10 minutes.

An electric motor sends 67 bhp (50 kW / 68 PS) plus 85 Nm (62 lb/ft) of torque to the rear wheels. Combined with a kerb weight of only 600 kg (1,322 lbs), the One accelerates from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) time in a respectable 9.9 seconds, but the top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h) is modest. Either City or Boost modes can be selected to balance efficiency and performance.

Prices start from £15,100 (after the government’s £3,500 Plug-in Car Grant has been applied). Among the key options are the 24 kWh battery upgrade (£3,000), the aforementioned AC fast charger (£3,000), air conditioning (£275) and the Mobileye suite of safety technologies (£750).

Orders are being accepted now.
