2020 NACTOY finalists
Following a second round of voting, the finalists for the 2020 North American Car of the Year, Truck of the Year and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards have been named.
The three models in each category were determined by a jury comprising fifty automotive journalists from across Canada and the United States. Notably, no European brands are represented.
2020 North American Car of the Year
Remarkably, a couple of the remaining contenders – the Chevrolet and the Toyota – are two-seat performance models. Joining them is the comparatively mundane eighth-generation Sonata.
2020 North American Truck of the Year
In 2019, Ram won this prize with its 1500, so 2020 might be the Heavy Duty version’s turn. Incidentally, the only two semi-finalists that failed to get enough support were both General Motors products (the Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty and the GMC Sierra Heavy Duty).
2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year
Hyundai is another marque which could secure successive titles, if the Palisade is able to repeat the Kona’s 2019 victory. However, the closely-related Kia is a natural rival, plus the Aviator arguably stands out in this trio thanks to Lincoln’s more upmarket image.
Next, there’ll be another ballot before all of the winners are announced on the 13th of January 2020.
