The GR Supra gets modified for SEMA 2019
Toyota is exhibiting five special examples of its GR Supra at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas.
Two of them – the GR Supra Heritage Edition and the GR Supra HyperBoost Edition – were the result of a competitive build-off between Toyota marketing boss Ed Laukes and NASCAR analyst (and former Top Gear USA presenter) Rutledge Wood.
GR Supra Heritage Edition
Inspired by Ed Laukes and brought to fruition by the Motorsports Technical Center, this car pays homage to the previous-generation model which was launched in 1993. Accordingly, the light clusters and rear wing are unique.
An upgraded chassis gains Tein adjustable coilovers and a Scarbo Performance rear suspension set-up, while 11” HRE P107SC five-spoke wheels shod with Toyo Proxes tyres replace the regular rims. In addition, the tuned 3.0 litre, six-cylinder engine is reckoned to produce over 500 horsepower (approximately 370 kW).
GR Supra HyperBoost Edition
Lucky Leos 17 Motorsports created the HyperBoost Edition for Rutledge Wood. As its name suggests, a seriously upgraded turbocharger is a key component. In fact, with the help of a remapped ECU and a bespoke titanium exhaust, output has been raised to around 750 horsepower (560 kW).
An eye-catching twenty-piece body kit and a replacement roof panel are made from carbon fibre. Three-piece 20” wheels sit beneath those widened arches.
GR Supra 3000GT Concept
In 1994, Toyota Customizing and Development introduced TRD3000GT body styling for the Mk. IV Supra. Now TCD has done something similar for the 2020 GR Supra.
To complement the more purposeful appearance, Bride Xero CS FIA-approved racing seats, Tein adjustable coilovers, 19” TWS Motorsport RS317 forged wheels and Brembo GT-S Monobloc brake calipers have also been fitted.
GR Supra Performance Line Concept
TCD was responsible for the Performance Line Concept, too. Essentially, it’s a vision of what customers could feasibly do to their own cars.
A carbon fibre aerodynamics package consists of a front splitter, side skirts, door appendages, a rear diffuser and a subtle hatchback spoiler. An HKS exhaust, lightweight 19” forged wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres and Bride racing seats complete the transformation.
GR Supra Wasabi Concept
The Toyota Genuine Accessory Team is using the bright green Wasabi Concept to gauge demand for products that could be offered in the future.
As well as a Five Axis body kit, the enhanced specification list includes 20” forged wheels and two-piece brake discs with Brembo B-M calipers. Fully-adjustable Öhlins coilovers (incorporating Dual Flow Valve inverted dampers) are intended to sharpen the dynamics, plus there’s a strut tower brace to increase rigidity.
