Lancia launches the Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic
Lancia’s sole surviving model – which is only sold in Italy – is now available as a mild hybrid. Named the Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic, the new arrival features the same powertrain as the Fiat 500 Hybrid and Panda Hybrid.
In addition to a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder, ‘FireFly’ petrol engine and a six-speed manual transmission, it incorporates a 12 volt belt-integrated starter generator (BSG) and a lithium battery. Maximum output and peak torque are 69 bhp (51 kW / 70 PS) and 92 Nm (67 lb-ft) respectively.
One of the BSG’s roles is energy recuperation during deceleration or braking. Those recovered joules can be released later from the battery to assist with acceleration. They also get the combustion engine going again after the stop-start system has been activated.
Efficiency is consequently much improved. The Hybrid EcoChic achieves 70.6 mpg (4.0 l/100km) with 90 g/km of CO2 emissions according to the NEDC combined cycle, for instance. By comparison, the equivalent figures for the conventional 1.2 litre ‘Fire’ unit are 47.0 mpg (5.9 l/100km) and 135 g/km.
Hybrid EcoChic customers have a choice of Silver, Gold or Hybrid Maryne trim grades. The last of those is a special edition that comes with rear privacy glass, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control, Uconnect infotainment, Bluetooth and Seaqual Yarn upholstery (an innovative fabric made from waste plastic taken out of the Mediterranean, as well as other recycled fibres).
In Italy, starting prices for the mild-hybrid Ypsilon vary between €14,450 and €16,550.
