Suzuki launches the two-seat 2021 Jimny LCV

Despite being first introduced just over two years ago, the passenger-carrying version of the popular Jimny has already been dropped from Suzuki’s range in Europe. The reason is simple: its engine – an inefficient 1.5 litre non-turbo petrol unit – would have caused Suzuki to exceed the EU’s impending average-fleet CO2 limits.

However, the new Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle isn’t subject to those regulations, so the small off-roader will still be available (albeit with an obvious compromise).

While the LCV remains fully glazed, the rear seats are replaced by a flat floor. The other main modification involves the addition of a protective partition between the load space and the cab.

In terms of technical specifications, things are unchanged. Therefore, the aforementioned 100 bhp (75 kW / 102 PS) engine is joined by a five-speed manual transmission, a low-range transfer gear, and a part-time four-wheel drive system. NEDC combined fuel economy is 46.3 mpg (6.1 l/100km), but WLTP CO2 emissions are as high as 174 g/km.

Prices and standard equipment levels have yet to be confirmed.
