2021 Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition revealed
Two manufacturers are supplying the Formula 1 Safety and Medical Cars this season. Mercedes-AMG continues to provide the familiar GT R F1 Safety Car and C 63 S Estate F1 Medical Car (albeit both now painted red), while Aston Martin will fulfil the role for the first time with the Vantage F1 Safety Car and DBX F1 Medical Car.
Exploiting an obvious marketing opportunity, the latter company has launched the Vantage F1 Edition. This new street-legal model is essentially a replica of the Vantage F1 Safety Car.
Like its track-only counterpart, the F1 Edition gains various powertrain enhancements. Output from the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine is up by 25 PS (24 bhp / 18 kW) to 535 PS (527 bhp / 393 kW), for example, plus peak torque of 685 Nm (505 lb-ft) can be sustained for longer. The eight-speed ZF automatic transmission is more responsive than usual, too.
Consequently, the F1 Edition Coupe can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, before achieving a top speed of 195 mph (314 km/h). There’s also a Roadster version, which records 3.7 seconds and 190 mph (305 km/h) for those same benchmarks.
Visually, the most obvious upgrades are the satin black diamond-turned 21” wheels and the numerous aerodynamic appendages. Indeed, Aston Martin claims that the F1 Edition generates up to 200 kg (440 lb) of extra downforce compared to a regular Vantage, thanks to the addition of a full-width front splitter, front dive planes, under-body turning vanes and a prominent rear wing.
The chassis has received attention as well. Among the modifications are recalibrated dampers, increased rear spring rates, and better steering feel.
Available in several body colours, Vantage F1 Edition deliveries are expected to begin in May 2021. Prices in the UK and Germany start at £142,000 and €162,000 respectively.
