The Opel Rocks-e is a rehashed Citroën Ami
Opel has sourced its latest model from another Stellantis brand. The new pure-electric, two-seat Rocks-e is essentially a rebadged version of the Citroën Ami.
An 8 PS (8 bhp / 6 kW) electric motor and a 5.5 kWh battery pack are housed within a petite body measuring 2.41 metres (7’ 10”) long by 1.39 metres (4’ 6”) wide. Kerb weight is just 471 kg (1,038 lb).
Maximum WLTP range is 47 miles (75 kilometres), which should be sufficient for daily urban use. A full recharge via an ordinary domestic socket takes between three and four hours.
The Rocks-e is actually classed as a quadricycle. Consequently, top speed is restricted to 28 mph (45 km/h), but drivers will only require an AM-category moped licence. That in turn opens up the possibility of youngsters getting behind the wheel, depending on local laws.
Opel is soon going to begin accepting orders from customers in Germany. There, the Rocks-e is being offered in a choice of base, Klub or TeKno trim grades at as-yet unknown prices.
Further market launches are then expected to take place during 2022.
