Piaggio 1 electric scooter specs confirmed
Three different versions of the new Piaggio 1 electric scooter are going to be available.
The entry-level model features LED lighting, keyless starting, a USB port on the leg shield, and a 5.5” LCD colour instrument display that automatically switches between day and night settings.
To help with packaging, the electric motor is built into the rear wheel hub. It has an output of 1.6 PS (1.6 bhp / 1.2 kW) which gives a top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h).
Lifting the saddle reveals a storage compartment (large enough to fit a jet style helmet) and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Interestingly, the latter weighs 10 kg (22 lb) and is easily removable, therefore recharging can happen anywhere. A full replenishment using a 220-volt domestic supply takes six hours.
Maximum range according to the WMTC measure in Sport mode is 30 miles (48 kilometres). Changing to Eco increases that distance to 34 miles (55 kilometres), but the Piaggio 1 is then limited to 18 mph (30 km/h) and acceleration is slower.
There’s also a Reverse function, although manoeuvring should be easy enough anyway thanks to a 770 mm (30.3”) seat height and a ready-to-ride weight of 85 kg (187 lb).
Moving up the range, the Piaggio 1+ gains a bigger 2.3 kWh, 15 kg (33 lb) battery. Unsurprisingly, the Sport and Eco ranges consequently rise to 42 and 62 miles (68 and 100 kilometres) respectively.
Completing the trio is the Piaggio 1 Active. It combines the 2.3 kWh battery with a more powerful 2.7 PS (2.7 bhp / 2.0 kW) motor, so 37 mph (60 km/h) is possible. This variant is able to travel 41 miles (66 kilometres) in Sport and 52 miles (85 kilometres) in Eco.
UK prices for the Piaggio 1 are expected to start at £2,500, while the Piaggio 1 Active will cost from £3,000. Deliveries begin in the autumn.
