Peugeot Sport and Lorige create a wristwatch

Peugeot Sport is currently developing its new 9X8 Hypercar Hybrid for the World Endurance Championship. To mark the brand’s return to top-class racing, recently-founded watchmaker Lorige has been commissioned to design a special timepiece called the BL-Endurance Hyperblack.

However, this is more than a marketing gimmick. The Hyperblack’s carbon case – which measures 51.6 mm by 43.6 mm with an overall thickness of 10.5 mm – is machined from one of the 9X8’s brakes. Indeed, the ‘BL’ part of the name stands for Brake Late.

Black DLC-treated titanium is used for the case back, bezel, crown, lugs and strap clasp, while the black hands and Arabic numerals are PVD-coated. The dark theme is lifted by some subtle Kryptonite yellow highlights, as well as the white glow-in-the-dark Super-LumiNova on the indices and hand tips.

A Swiss-made, 37-jewel LOR-PR03 automatic movement incorporates a date display at the 3 o’clock position, plus a 45-hour power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. Water resistance is rated at just 50 metres, though.

Apparently only 24 examples of the BL-Endurance Hyperblack are going to be produced, but a price of €29,200 (roughly £21,275) should limit demand.
