2014 Honda CB1100 and CB1100EX

Honda has announced a few updates for its CB1100, including the introduction of an EX version. That news might come as a surprise to some, as the retro-styled naked bike was only launched in Europe earlier this year.

A major change is the adoption of a six-speed gearbox in place of the old five-speed item. Better economy and more relaxed cruising are promised by the extra ratio, which is complemented by a fuel computer, efficiency gauge and gear position indicator.

Completing the alterations to the regular CB1100 are standard-fit anti-lock brakes on European-market models, different indicators and a higher mounting position for the headlight. As before, power is provided by an air-cooled, fuel-injected, four-cylinder, 1,140 cc engine that produces 88 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS).

Aluminium-rimmed wire-spoke wheels and twin rear exhausts instantly identify the new CB1100EX, but those aren’t the only distinguishing features. It also has a larger fuel tank that holds 17.5 litres (3.8 gallons) instead of the usual 14.6 litres (3.2 gallons). The redesigned side panels, plusher seat and horizontal pillion grab rails are all unique, too.

The 2014 CB1100 comes with Graphite Black paintwork, while CB1100EX buyers will have a choice of Graphite Black, Candy Glory Red or Pearl Milky White colour schemes. UK prices have yet to be confirmed.
