2015 Dodge Challenger SRT and SRT Hellcat

Dodge has announced that SRT and SRT Hellcat models will be joining its recently-revealed 2015 Challenger range.

Powering the SRT is the same 6.4 litre Hemi V8 that’s used in the Scat Pack versions. Developing 485 bhp (361 kW / 491 PS) with 644 Nm (475 lb/ft) of torque, it can be teamed with either the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission or a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual gearbox.

However it’s the SRT Hellcat’s figures which are really impressive. Despite having a slightly smaller 6.2 litre engine, output is reckoned to be in excess of 600 horsepower (around 450 kW) thanks to the addition of a supercharger and numerous other upgraded components. Unfortunately Dodge hasn’t released any acceleration figures, but anybody concerned for the future of muscle cars should be very reassured…

To go with that engine, the SRT Hellcat is equipped with stronger Brembo front brake discs and six-piston calipers, dual bonnet air extractors, a larger front splitter, 20” ‘Slingshot’ seven-spoke matte black wheels and an ‘Air Catcher’ ram air intake that’s incorporated into one of the driver-side headlamps. Transmission choice is as per the regular SRT.

Both variants come with a lightweight aluminium bonnet, heated and ventilated front sports seats, a unique heated steering wheel and the Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system. Also fitted is a Drive Modes device that controls various functions including the suspension, traction control, power delivery and shift speed. There’s a Valet Mode too which, sensibly, severely limits the available performance.

Production of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT and SRT Hellcat is due to begin during the third quarter of this year. Prices have yet to be announced.
