2015 Corsa first view

A couple of weeks after several official spy shots were released, Vauxhall / Opel has properly revealed the new Corsa supermini.

Essentially, it’s a heavily reworked version of the current model. The most obvious visual changes are an Adam-inspired single grille at the front and some extra ‘blade’ swage lines along the sides. Given the constraints they were working under, GM’s stylists have done a decent job of producing something that looks sufficiently neat and fresh.

The interior meanwhile is totally revised. In particular, it gains an updated dashboard that can now incorporate a 7” colour touchscreen for the smartphone-compatible IntelliLink infotainment system.

Beneath the skin, improving the Corsa’s ride and handling were key objectives. The work has involved replacing all of the chassis components, recalibrating spring and damper rates, altering the suspension geometry and slightly lowering the centre of gravity.

Consequently, stability and comfort are reckoned to be better, plus an eagerness to understeer has been reined in. Furthermore, the speed-sensitive electric power steering is tuned specifically for UK roads and it features a high-assistance City mode.

As previously revealed, the 2015 Corsa is going to be available with GM’s innovative 1.0 litre Ecotec three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces either 89 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS) or 114 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS).

Among the alternatives are a 99 bhp (74 kW / 100 PS) four-cylinder 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol unit and a “much improved” 1.3 CDTi diesel with 74 bhp (55 kW / 75 PS) or 94 bhp (70 kW / 95 PS).

The 2015 Corsa is due to make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. Market launches are then expected to begin before the end of this year.
