2015 Yamaha MT-09 Tracer unveiled

Changing a few things on an existing motorcycle can be enough to create another model which appeals to a very different type of rider. And that’s exactly the strategy used by Yamaha to devise the latest member of its expanding MT family.

The new MT-09 Tracer – known simply as the FJ-09 in North America – takes the basic MT-09 and adds a fairing, a larger 18 litre (3.9 gallon) fuel tank and a more pillion-friendly saddle to enhance its touring abilities.

Also fitted are dual LED headlights, an adjustable windscreen, a centre stand and brackets for a pair of optional panniers. A switchable traction control system, anti-lock brakes and some Tracer-specific riding modes complete the specification.

All other major components, including the die-cast aluminium frame and 847 cc three-cylinder engine that produces 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS), are carried over from the MT-09 unaltered.

Yamaha has still to confirm a price for the MT-09 Tracer, but when sales begin buyers will have a choice of Race Blu, Matt Grey or Lava Red colour schemes.
