2016 Renault Kadjar first view

Renault’s new Kadjar is a C-segment crossover. Based on the same CMF architecture that already underpins the second-generation Nissan Qashqai, it’ll be manufactured in Palencia, Spain and Wuhan, China.

For now specification details are sparse, but Renault has confirmed that the Kadjar is going to be offered with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Doubtless the petrol and diesel engine selection will be very similar to the Qashqai’s.

Renault describes the styling as fluid and athletic. There are certainly some strong visual resemblances to the smaller Captur crossover, but the Kadjar has a noticeably broader stance. Overall, its design works rather well.

On the inside, soft-touch materials for the dashboard and double-row upholstery stitching are among the elements intended to convey an upmarket feel. An available large fixed glass sunroof should brighten up the cabin (and keep the air conditioning occupied).

The Kadjar is due to make its public debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. UK sales are then expected to begin in the autumn.
