2014 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster

The Veneno, unveiled at March’s Geneva motor show, was created by Lamborghini as part of the company’s 50th birthday celebrations. Now a no less striking Roadster version has arrived.

Constructed around a carbon fibre reinforced polymer monocoque, the Veneno Roadster’s bodywork appears to be styled solely to maximise visual impact. However, according to Lamborghini, the actual focus was on optimising the car’s aerodynamics.

Particular priorities were high-speed stability and downforce. While the most obvious result is the adjustable rear wing, equally important elements are the flat floor, prominent rear diffuser and low profile front end.

Power comes from a tuned version of the Aventador’s 6.5 litre V12 engine. Producing 740 bhp (552 kW / 750 PS), it sends that output to all four wheels via an ISR transmission.

With a dry weight of only 1,490 kg (3,278 lbs), performance is spectacular. The Veneno Roadster will accelerate from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds, before going on to an undoubtedly windy top speed of 221 mph (355 km/h).

Lamborghini’s latest model will certainly be exclusive, as production is being restricted to just nine examples. A price tag of €3,300,000 (excluding taxes) - around £2,795,000 at current exchange rates - should limit demand, though.
