McLaren 12C GT Sprint price announced

The new McLaren 12C GT Sprint might be a contender for the title of ‘ultimate track day toy’, but it won’t be cheap.

In the UK, the price has been set at £195,000, making it £19,000 more expensive than a regular road-going model.

Based on the 12C’s carbon fibre monocoque, the GT Sprint incorporates an FIA-approved roll cage, onboard air jacks and a built-in fire extinguisher. Also included in the specification are upgraded brakes, 19” centre-lock wheels shod with competition tyres, lowered suspension and a recalibrated Proactive Chassis Control system.

On the inside, the driver sits in a lightweight composite race seat facing a digital dashboard. As expected many of the usual luxuries have been deleted, but at least the 12C GT Sprint gets to keep its air conditioning.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the powertrain. The 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 engine - which develops 616 bhp (460 kW / 625 PS) with 600 Nm (443 lb/ft) of peak torque - and the seven-speed twin-clutch transmission remain standard, although the cooling systems have been optimised for circuit work.
