Meriva gets a facelift

Three years after it was first launched, Vauxhall’s Meriva compact MPV is being refreshed.

The styling updates are concentrated on the front end, which receives a new grille, revised headlights and chrome accents around the fog lights.

A more significant change has taken place under the bonnet, where the old 1.7 CDTi diesel engine has been replaced by a 1.6 CDTi unit. With 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS), the new motor produces roughly the same power as its predecessor, but torque is up by 20 Nm (14 lb/ft) to 320 Nm (236 lb/ft).

As a result, the diesel Meriva’s 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time has been reduced by nearly a second, yet carbon dioxide emissions have also dropped to 116 g/km. Combined cycle fuel economy is 64.2 mpg (4.4 l/100km).

For those who don’t like diesel, a range of three 1.4 litre petrol engines in various states of tune continues to be available.

Prices for the 2014 Meriva have yet to be confirmed, but Vauxhall has said the first customer deliveries are due this January.

  1. Where is the sat/nav/phone or cigarette lighter socket? I can't find one anywhere. Is this another cost cutting exercise that makes the car useless?
