BMW M5 ‘30 Jahre M5’ edition first view

BMW is celebrating 30 years of the M5 in style by launching the new ‘30 Jahre M5’ limited edition.

Finished in BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver metallic paintwork, its other distinctive features include unique side gills and a set of 20” two-tone double-spoke alloy wheels. The grille surrounds, exhaust tips and door handle inserts meanwhile are dark chrome.

Among the special interior elements are Alcantara and Merino leather upholstery, an Alcantara-covered steering wheel, dark aluminium trim and a numbered dashboard plaque. To finish things off, the ‘30 Jahre M5’ script is embroidered across the seat backs and it appears on the doorsill plates too.

However, the most significant change has taken place beneath the bonnet. Output from the 4.4 litre turbocharged V8 engine is up from the usual 552 bhp (412 kW / 560 PS) to 591 bhp (441 kW / 600 PS), making this the most powerful BMW road car ever. As a result, the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) benchmark sprint is completed in an astonishing 3.9 seconds.

Just 300 examples of the M5 ‘30 Jahre M5’ are going to be built, of which 30 are destined to come to the UK priced at £91,890 apiece. Exclusivity certainly seems to command a big premium then, because that amount is £17,950 more than the cost of a regular M5.
