European-specification MG GS unveiled

Following its launch in China a year ago, MG's GS crossover has now arrived in Europe.

Given the (sometimes misguided) popularity of diesel in this segment, introducing the GS with only a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine is a bold move which could adversely affect sales.

The absence of full technical details makes assessing by how much rather difficult. However, we do know that buyers will be able to choose either a manual gearbox or an automatic dual-clutch transmission, so that might help to broaden the appeal of this MG.

Likewise, costs and specifications for the three planned trim grades remain a mystery, even though pre-orders are already being accepted.

According to Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG, “Regarding how much this fantastic new car will cost, it will be consistent with our other models. We're proud of the fact our prices are transparent. When we say our cars are affordable, we mean it. The price structures are easy to understand and have no surprise additions.”
