Peugeot reveals the L500 R HYbrid

One hundred years ago today, Dario Resta won the sixth Indianapolis 500 race driving a Peugeot L45. The L500 R HYbrid – which is really just a fantasy concept – celebrates this particular centenary.

Designed purely as a competition car (but not intended to comply with any current motorsport regulations), the single-seat L500 R HYbrid is visually defined by some huge wheels and an ultra-low-profile cockpit.

As its name suggests, power is provided by a hybrid system that comprises a 266 bhp (198 kW / 270 PS) petrol engine plus an electric motor for each axle. Total output is rated at 493 bhp (367 kW / 500 PS) and Peugeot reckons the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint would take 2.5 seconds.
