Return of the Renault Twingo GT

A quicker Twingo is coming. Called GT, it resurrects a trim grade that was first seen on the previous-generation model.

This latest incarnation features a rear-mounted 898 cc turbocharged petrol engine with revised mapping and an altered air intake system.

Consequently, the rear-wheel drive Twingo GT boasts an increased output of 108 bhp (81 kW / 110 PS). Peak torque meanwhile becomes 170 Nm (125 lb/ft).

There are changes to the manual transmission's gear ratios too, but performance figures have yet to be released.

To complement those powertrain upgrades, the GT also gets bespoke suspension, steering and electronic stability program settings. Other unique elements include a set of 17” wheels, twin exhaust pipes, aluminium pedals and an alloy gear lever knob.

The 2017 Twingo GT is due to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month. UK deliveries will then begin in the winter.
