Toyota has given the Aygo a facelift

Bolder front-end styling distinguishes the revised Aygo, which is due to arrive at Toyota dealers in July.

A choice of six trim grades will be offered. According to the manufacturer, each version is “tailored to appeal to the tastes and needs of different target customers” and there has been “a special focus on the high end of the segment”.

The range-topping x-clusiv, for example, features 15” twin-spoke alloy wheels and two-tone paintwork. Its generous specification also includes smart entry and start, part-leather upholstery, automatic air conditioning, an x-touch multimedia system and the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance technologies.

Every Aygo is powered by a 998 cc, three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 71 bhp (53 kW / 72 PS) plus 93 Nm (68 lb/ft) of peak torque.

With a five-speed manual gearbox, the result is a leisurely 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 13.8 seconds and 68.9 mpg (4.1 l/100km) on the combined cycle. Opting for an x-shift automated manual transmission instead sees those figures worsen to 15.2 seconds and 67.3 mpg (4.2 l/100km) respectively.
