2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon first view

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new A-Class Saloon, which is due to make its public début at the Paris Motor Show in October.

This compact four-door measures 4,549 mm (179.1”) long by 1,796 mm (70.7”) wide. A wheelbase of 2,729 mm (107.4”) creates short overhangs, thereby benefiting the car’s proportions. Boot capacity is 420 litres.

As per the recently-launched hatchback version, the most striking interior feature is the dashboard. Instead of a traditional binnacle with analogue dials and gauges, the driver faces what’s known as a ‘glass cockpit’ in the aviation world. A pair of customisable flat displays (either 7” or 10.25”) show all driving-related information, as well as output from the standard-fit MBUX touchscreen multimedia system.

Just two engines are going to be available initially, so that aspect of the purchasing process should be very simple.

For petrol fans, the A 200 has a 1,332 cc four-cylinder unit that produces 160 bhp (120 kW / 163 PS) with 250 Nm (184 lb/ft) of peak torque. Alternatively, the 1,461 cc, four-cylinder, diesel-fuelled A 180 d can muster 114 bhp (85 kW / 116 PS) and 260 Nm (191 lb/ft). Both are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

UK deliveries of the A-Class Saloon will begin next spring.
