2020 Corsa-e first view

Like the closely-related Peugeot 208, the all-new Vauxhall / Opel Corsa will be offered in pure-electric form. Indeed, the Corsa-e shares its powertrain with the recently-announced e-208.

A 50 kWh under-floor battery pack supplies an electric motor that produces 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS) with 260 Nm (191 lb/ft) of instant torque. Performance should be more than adequate, as evidenced by a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 8.1 seconds.

Such pace is pointless without decent range, though. Thankfully, the practical Corsa-e can travel for 205 miles (330 kilometres) on a single charge (according to a provisional WLTP assessment). By comparison, the equivalent figure for Peugeot’s e-208 is 211 miles (340 kilometres).

While full details about recharging have yet to be disclosed, replenishment to 80% capacity is reckoned to take around 30 minutes when using a dedicated DC facility.

Expect prices to be revealed very soon, because customers can begin placing their Corsa-e orders sometime in the next few weeks. Of course, not everybody is ready to switch to an electric car, so petrol and diesel versions of the 2020 Corsa are coming too.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
