BMW unveils the M5 Edition 35 Years
It’s becoming customary for BMW’s M division to produce special editions that celebrate five-year anniversaries. The latest is the M5 Edition 35 Years, which commemorates the original M5’s arrival in 1984.
Being based on the current Competition version, the Edition 35 Years benefits from the most powerful engine ever seen in an M5. Indeed, output from the 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 is rated at 616 bhp (460 kW / 625 PS), while peak torque is 750 Nm (553 lb/ft). Consequently, the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes only 3.3 seconds, but top speed remains electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
Just 350 examples are going to be built. All will feature 20” Graphite Grey Y-spoke lightweight alloy wheels, gloss black brake calipers and BMW Individual Frozen Dark Grey metallic paintwork.
Inside, the specification includes black BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery with beige stitching. Extra contrast is uniquely provided by gold-anodized ‘carbon structure’ aluminium trim pieces on the dashboard, centre console and doors. “M5 Edition 35 Jahre” engraving on the central cupholder cover and door-sill kick plates completes the modifications.
Deliveries of the M5 Edition 35 Years are due to begin in July. Neither a price nor a UK allocation has been confirmed yet, though.
