Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet revealed

Is there really a market for compact convertible SUVs? Volkswagen must be hoping so, because it has just unveiled a two-door drop-top version of the T-Roc.

Obviously, a key component is the powered fabric roof, which can be opened or closed at up to 18 mph (30 km/h). If everything goes wrong, then roll-over protection bars spring up from behind the rear head restraints.

Customers are going to have a choice of Style or R-Line trim grades. The engine line-up meanwhile comprises two turbocharged petrol units:
  • 1.0 litre, three cylinders – 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS)
  • 1.5 litre, four cylinders – 147 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS)
A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is being offered as an alternative to the usual six-speed manual gearbox, but all-wheel drive won’t be available.

The T-Roc Cabriolet is due to appear in public for the first time at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Deliveries will then begin in spring 2020.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
