Fisker names its new pure-electric SUV

Fisker is planning an innovative usage scheme for its luxury SUV, which is called Ocean. All access will be via a flexible leasing arrangement which is going to be managed by a dedicated app. Apparently there won’t be any long-term contracts, but details are a little vague at the moment.

At 4,640 mm (182.6”) long, the Ocean is 122 mm (4.8”) shorter than the recently-introduced 4,762 mm (187.4”) Mercedes-Benz EQC. Nevertheless, a spacious interior is promised, thanks in part to a wide stance and a compact nose that doesn’t incorporate an opening bonnet.

Final technical specifications haven’t been disclosed yet. However, the lithium-ion battery pack is expected to have a capacity of around 80 kWh, giving an anticipated range of 250 to 300 miles (around 400 to 480 kilometres). Solar panels embedded into the roof might mean that slightly fewer trips to a recharging station are required, but of course their true worth remains to be seen.

According to Fisker, the Ocean is set to become the world’s most sustainable vehicle. Such a claim is being made because of low-pollution manufacturing methods and a prevalence of recycled materials.

  • 4 January 2020 – live-streamed official reveal of the Ocean prototype
  • Late 2021 – start of production
  • 2022 – high-volume deliveries begin
