Kia is updating its e-Niro range for 2020
Kia has announced a ‘4’ trim grade for the pure-electric e-Niro. This new variant – which replaces the First Edition model – will be the only equipment level offered in the UK.
There’s certainly plenty of standard kit. For instance, the exterior features 17” alloy wheels, parking sensors front and rear, a reversing camera, privacy glass and all-LED lights.
Inside, black leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, automatic air conditioning and ambient lighting all help to create a sense of luxury.
As might be expected, the infotainment set-up is impressive. Centred around a 10.25” touchscreen, it incorporates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, Bluetooth, UVO Connect Services telematics, satellite navigation and a DAB radio. Wireless device charging and eight JBL speakers are also part of the package.
The powertrain still comprises a 201 bhp (150 kW / 204 PS) electric motor, a single-speed automatic transmission and a 64.0 kWh under-floor battery pack. Combined-cycle range according to the WLTP measure is a very practical 282 miles (455 kilometres).
Recharging times depend on the method used. At one end of the scale, replenishing from 0% to 100% takes 29 hours via an ordinary domestic AC supply. By contrast, a public 100 kW DC facility is able to get from 0% to 80% capacity in 54 minutes.
The on-the-road price of an e-Niro ‘4’ is £37,995, but that figure reduces to £34,495 after the government’s Plug-in Car Grant has been applied. Premium paint (costing £585) appears to be the sole option.
Kia dealers are accepting orders now.
