Two very different Ford vehicles for the police
Ford’s Essex-based Special Vehicle Preparation department has developed a pair of fully-equipped and liveried police models.
The first, which is based on the Ranger Raptor pick-up, is primarily intended for rural patrols that might require rapid off-road progress. Fleet accountants and buyers would probably argue that the much cheaper, slightly slower, entry-level Ranger XL 4x4 is sufficient 99% of the time, though.
By contrast, the Focus ST Estate can fulfil more traditional response and pursuit roles. Thanks to a 276 bhp (205 kW / 280 PS) 2.3 litre petrol engine, performance certainly won’t be lacking, while relatively compact dimensions make this car particularly suited to urban work.
Evaluations of the Ranger and Focus by UK police forces are currently ongoing.
